Many children in Kalimpong, District Darjeeling, have great potential but never come to know it. Their parents are illiterate and cannot afford a proper education.
In the My Peace Music Institute - which is a small, independent non-profit initiative - such children get the chance to discover their potential and make a living out of it. They are treated to a free of charge education to become music teachers.
Simultaneously funds are provided by the institute for the children to complete high school and, given the respective preconditions, a college/university degree.
Presently 24 students, boys and girls, are trained free of charge. All instruments (violin, viola, cello, key-board, piano, guitar) are provided by the institute.
But the My Peace Music Institute welcomes all interested in music and has also got about 30 more students, whose parents contribute small amounts of money to the institute in exchange for the music classes of their children.
